I am the star, waiting to shoot across the sky.

I’m from loud family meetings in my kitchen
My dad’s sarcasm and booming voice
As loud as a clap of thunder
Mom taking her usual role as the voice of reason
Calming and patient
From apple-picking to large stockings
The joys of tradition and love

I’m from three sisters
Two with me, one watching over me
Protecting and comforting
Supporting each other through the trialing times
Laughing until we cry
Crying until we laugh
Best Friends

I’m from empanadas sizzling
Making the sofrito with my mom
Garlic, peppers, and onions
The lulling sound of the food processor
Creating a familiar memory in my mind
Rice on the stove, the symbol of Puerto Rico

I’m from bright lights and red velvet curtains
Hair and makeup
From my voice echoing through the plush seats
To my heart racing as I take my bow
Flowers applauding my performance after the lights dim

I’m from daydreams and hopes
The girl-next-door
Aspiring to see her name in shining lights
Her own star on the infamous Hollywood Walk of Fame
I am the pen working on the unfinished novel
Hitting my stride as I write the best part of my story

I’m from laughs at the lunch table
Inside jokes and codenames
Whispering about that boy over there
Keeping secrets we’d never tell a soul
Sleepovers and dance parties
Screaming at the top of our lungs the lyrics of the current hit of the week
Sticking together through the rumors and gossip

I am the star, waiting to shoot across the sky
A sister, fighting and hugging
A daughter, loved to the ends of the Earth
A student, ready to learn and achieve
A best friend, laughing and loyal
I am crazy, sarcastic, entertaining, and beautiful.
I am what I am supposed to be.

Apologies, Excuses, and Athleticism.

hello friends :)

first off, my apologies for not fulfilling my promises and for completely ignoring the blogging world. i promised you a journey through middle school and now i'm halfway through middle school. i, becca solis, promise to now keep up with this blog for as long as humanly possible. anywho, lets catch up over some virtual tea and crumpets. i think you should all be formally introduced to my besterestest friend gillian boyfriend adair. she is 3 days older than me, plays softball, loves cows, and no, she does not have a boyfriend. its just one of the many codenames we have so that no one will ever find out her true middle name. she has been there for me through the hardest times and vice versa. gilly means the world to me and no one can ever take her away. or they shall be burned eternally in her signature side smile prison ;) if you're reading this gilly, EYE LOVE YOU <3.  we happened to bond over my newest obsession which is big time rush:
the gorgeous boys from left to right: hortence aka logan, james, kendall, and carlos

through them we have become best friends and are forever in debt to them. besides, who wouldn't love them? they can sing, dance, act and are extremely attractive :) my absolute favorite is hortence aka logan. he's smart and cute and has an amazing range when he sings. gilly's favorite is kendall. he's the leader of the group and gilly's perfect boy. to sum things up, me and gilly have been through the most amazing things and yet she still loves me even with my highly dysfunctional brain.
another amazing thing that has happened to me is that i am now an official lacrosse player for my middle school. yes, those of you who have the honor of knowing me know that ms. becca solis doesn't do athletics. i have, or rather had, absolutely no hand-eye coordination. but apparently it's fair game when you use a stick. coach vroom and my teammates have helped tremendously and now i can cradle, pass, and somewhat catch. the best part is wearing your practice clothes, pre-wrap in your hair, uggs, and a side ponytail. this is the signature look of a jersey athletic girl. and i pull it off well :)
however, my family is doing even better. my dad is now a high school youth pastor for our church, 217church (their link is below in the p.s. section!). my mother is starting her own blog which i will share about when she posts on it. my older sister, kristen, is now an intern at terracycle and the most sarcastic and hilarious person i know. she gets my jokes, i get hers, we make the same faces, and we both are absolutely in love with gingers and harry potter. what can i say, sisters are EVERYTHING to each other. also, my little sister, olivia, is in second grade at wicoff, she love to research animals but is currently working on gymnastics. since she is only seven and i share a room with her, things can get pretty intense between us. but for the most part, she fits the roles of the youngest child and younger sister perfectly.
but there have also been some tough spots throughout the year. my grades started to slowly decline because i started to focus on the fun aspect of school rather than the real reason, which is academics. socializing in class, hanging out with the wrong crowd, and just not caring or doing homework eventually made this star student go to Cs and Ds. i ws so scared that i would mever get back to how life was or was supposed to be. but my teachers got me on track and i'm slowly working my way back up to the top. i know i can do this but sometimes i get those flash backs of failing classes and the look of just disappointment in everyone's faces. its those times when gilly helped me the most. she keeps me on track, helps me to understand what i can't on my own, and is always there for when i sometimes just break down. but i'm getting back to my As so don't you worry. becca has got everything back under control.
so as you can see, life has had its bumps but for the most part its been an amazing year. but whats coming up? i have a really close friend's bat mitzvah which i am beyond excited for. i will basically know everyone there and its going to be a great time. besides, how can it not be fun when i have a dress that makes me look like a stunning ballerina fairy? also, i have a field trip to washington d.c. and i'm really hoping gilly will be in my group for the trip. but who knows what life will throw at you.

i promise you more to come. no excuses this time.

Love and Smiles :)

P.S. i almost forgot! i'm now singing with the pac middle school youth worship band. its so exciting and i am currently working on a 217youth worship band too. 217church is my current church though. check put my dad as the high school youth pastor and my new extended family at 217church.com
